Rico (xe/they in English; elle en español) is a multidisciplinary artist, DJ, electronic musician, performer, and curator based in Brooklyn, NYC. Originally from Abya Yala, Rico’s work emerges from a life lived in movement—through borders, genders, mediums, and sonic landscapes.
Their practice spans sound art, performance, photography, and documentary, often tracing the contours of migration, trans identity, ancestral memory, and the temporal collapse of neoliberal modernity. Rico explores the frictions and resonances between third-world identities and first-world imaginaries, carving out space for narratives that exist beyond binaries—of nation, time, and gender.
As a DJ, Rico has held residencies at T4Tuesdays at Mad Tropical and currently co-hosts Hole Vision on The Lot Radio with Crystal Peñalosa, a show centering music created by trans artists. Rico was a resident at Chaos Computer, a now-closed underground club and artist-run space in NYC, and is deeply involved in the city’s underground music and art scene.
Rico currently works with Voluminous Arts, a trans liberation organization based in Queens, NYC, supporting community-led sonic and artistic practices rooted in care, experimentation, and resistance.
Rico’s curatorial and sonic work is grounded in community, resistance, and an insistence on joy and futurity. Across every medium, Rico invites listeners and viewers into nonlinear worlds—where rhythm becomes ritual and identity becomes infinite.
